Zimbabweans seek refuge at US Embassy
Germany News.Net Thursday 3rd July, 2008
Around two hundred Zimbabweans have sought refuge at the US embassy in Harare.
US authorities are now considering what to do with them, as they claim to have been chased away from the headquarters of MDC opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
In the past few days, many opposition supporters have sought places of refuge in the city, especially at the South African Embassy.
The Red Cross has established a camp on the outskirts of Harare for people who claim to have been caught up in the violence perpetrated by supporters of Robert Mugabe.
On Sunday, Mugabe was officially declared president after what independent observers called a dishonest election.
