Enke gets nod in goal for Germany's World Cup campaign
Germany News.Net Thursday 28th August, 2008 (IANS)
Hanover goalkeeper Robert Enke will be first choice under the bar for Germany when the World Cup qualifying campaign gets underway next month, coach Joachim Loew said.
Werder Bremen's goalie Tim Wiese is also likely to be nominated when Loew names his squad for the matches in Liechtenstein (Sep 6) and Finland (Sep 10).
Wiese was called up for the recent friendly against Belgium after injury to Rene Adler of Bayer Leverkusen. With Adler still injured, 30-year-old Enke will get another chance to claim the No.1 jersey for himself.
'You can take it that he (Enke) will again be the No.1 in Vaduz and Helsinki,' Loew said.
Loew will name at least 20 players for the World Cup qualifying matches, when captain Michael Ballack and fellow midfielder Torsten Frings are expected to return from injuries.
Defenders Per Mertesacker and Arne Friedrich will not be selected to give them more time to recover from their injuries.
