BERLIN, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI) said Friday that 167 train stations across the country would be "refreshed" before the end of the year as part of the COVID-19 stimulus package.

BMVI would provide Germany's state-owned railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) with 40 million euros (47.3 million U.S. dollars) for the renovation and improvement of the train stations.

The program would also "support small and medium-sized local businesses throughout Germany," which would be commissioned to carry out the work at the stations, BMVI noted.

The modernization work at the train stations would include better information for passenger, an expansion of accessibility, improved waiting areas as well as energy efficiency improvement through LED lighting and modern heating systems, according to the ministry.
