Astralis move on in BLAST Premier Fall Finals lower bracket

Astralis survived and advanced to the third round of the lower bracket Friday at the BLAST Premier Fall Finals.

After losing Thursday during the upper-bracket semifinals, Astralis drew FaZe Clan in Round 2 of the lower bracket and posted a 2-1 victory.

Earlier in the day, FaZe Clan swept BIG and Team Liquid rallied to beat Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-1 to kick off the lower bracket. Liquid will battle Heroic on Saturday, with the winner moving on to face Astralis in the third round.

Astralis beat FaZe 16-10 on Mirage, but FaZe countered with a 16-5 rout on Nuke. Astralis took the deciding map, 16-9 on Dust II.

Benjamin 'blameF' Bremer led the all-Danish Astralis side with 58 kills and a plus-14 kills-to-deaths differential. Kristian 'k0nfig' Wienecke added 55 kills and a plus-7 differential. For FaZe, Havard 'rain' Nygaard of Norway led with 54 kills and a plus-4.

FaZe advanced to meet Astralis by beating BIG 16-11 on Dust II and 16-9 on Inferno. In that match, rain posted 48 kills and a plus-18 for FaZe. Johannes 'tabseN' Wodarz of Germany (40 kills) was the only player for BIG with a positive K-D differential (plus-1).

Liquid dropped the opening map to NIP, 16-13 on Inferno, before blowing by them with a 16-4 triumph on Mirage and a 16-11 win on Overpass.

Canada's Keith 'NAF' Markovic carried Liquid with 70 kills, and his plus-27 was the only positive differential for the winning side. Nicolai 'device' Reedtz of Denmark guided NIP with 61 kills and a plus-9.

All matches in the double-elimination, $425,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament are best-of-three, including the grand final on Sunday. The winning team will earn $225,000 and a berth in the BLAST Premier World Final, scheduled for Dec. 14-19. The runner-up will receive $85,000.
