BEIJING, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Top seed Carlos Alcaraz cruised into the men's singles semifinals of the China Open with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Norway's Casper Ruud here on Monday.
The world No.2 Spaniard converted four of the 15 break points he created. He also fired six aces against the seventh seed Ruud's one.
In the final four, he will meet the winner between the sixth seed Jannik Sinner of Italy and Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov.
Second seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia will face eighth-seeded Alexander Zverev in the other semifinal.
Medvedev progressed with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 victory over Frenchman Ugo Humbert, while Germany's Zverev saw off Nicolas Jarry of Chile 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Medvedev expected an exciting match against Zverev.
"Against Sascha (Zverev), we played already four times this year, 16 times in total," he said.
"Many of our matches are going three sets, long tiebreaks, stuff like this, drama sometimes, whatever. (It) could be an interesting match," added the world No. 3.
Medvedev is now leading 9-7 in his head-to-head record with Zverev.
Women's top seeds playing on Monday all advanced to the second round.
The second seed Iga Swiatek of Poland beat Spain's Sara Sorribes Tomo 6-4, 6-3, while third seed Coco Gauff of the United States held off Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 7-5, 6-3.
Fifth-seeded Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan beat local favorite Zheng Qinwen, who won the Asian Games women's singles title last Friday, 6-1, 6-2.
The ninth seed Caroline Garcia of France dispatched Ukraine's Kateryna Baindl 6-2, 6-4.
